This week the SRQ Wealth team would like to share a message from our friends at Manatee Community Foundation regarding Hurricane Harvey…
Even as we experience our own flooding here in Manatee County, we know that donors are looking for the best ways to support communities in Texas that are being impacted by Hurricane Harvey. As the situation continues to unfold, we will learn more about needs in the hardest hit areas. Though this list is not comprehensive, these organizations and funds offer some good choices for you to consider in your giving:
The Center for Disaster Philanthropy
The Center for Disaster Philanthropy has created the CDP Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund to focus on medium and long-term rebuilding needs. They expect the long-term needs to be rebuilding homes, businesses, infrastructure, meeting the needs of young children, supporting mental health needs, and boosting damaged agricultural sectors. CDP will also host a webinar tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. "Hurricane Harvey Recovery: How Donors Can Help."
Greater Houston Community Foundation
Mayor Sylvester Turner has established the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund of the Greater Houston Community Foundation that will accept tax deductible flood relief donations for victims that have been affected by the recent floods.
United Ways of Texas Hurricane Relief Funds
There are a number of funds being set up at local United Ways in Texas to address the impact of the storm in their own communities. More information is here.
Charity Navigator has listed "highly rated" organizations that are working in Texas responding in the aftermath of this storm and providing assistance to the people and communities affected by it. It is not certain that all these organizations will spend 100% of donations received on Hurricane Harvey relief.
As always, please let us know how we can support you in your philanthropic choices or if we can help you make a gift to one of these organizations through your donor advised fund at Manatee Community Foundation.
Whether you choose to give blood, give your time, or give a donation, we appreciate the difference you make.
Wishing you a safe start to your week.
